Highlighting some of my professional skills

Business improvement

I am a Senior Business Improvement Specialist in the IDS Change Delivery Capability at Flinders University. I use my skills to help the team develop solutions that improve business processes across the university.

I have over 14 years experience in the higher education sector in Australia. My most recent position within the team builds on my previous experience, including:

  1. Business analysis
  2. Solution design
  3. Data analysis
  4. Software development
  5. Systems analysis and design
  6. Technical communication

Data analysis

Throughout my career I have used databases and other content storage systems. I am proficient in using SQL queries to extract and manipulate data.

In the past few years I have also used Microsoft Power BI to build visualisations using data sourced from myriad systems. Including visualising data collected as part of an improved process. As well as visualising data used in the analysis phase of the team’s projects.

Software development

Software development is one of my hobbies. As evidenced by the time spent in developing this website using Hugo.

As well as the time I’ve spent on the tools used for my Instagram archive and floss websites.

I have developed some Node.js apps to help with my own projects, and to help with projects at work.

To help build the website I’ve developed gallery-utils. I’ve made the app available on my personal GitHub account.

The source code for much of the software I write as part of my work is available on my Flinders GitHub account.

Solution design

I lead the design of solutions that are implemented as part of a Business Improvement project. This includes:

  1. Identifying possible systems to provide required functionality
  2. Designing system interactions and linkages
  3. Writing specification documents
  4. Working with implementation teams on solution delivery
  5. Developing required software

Technical communication

I have a strong interest in technical communication. The ability to communicate, collaborate, and engage is an invaluable skill for people working in information technology.
