A tunnel of water drops

A few weekends ago I was walking around the Adelaide CBD and stumbled across the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Gardens. In it is this statue.

I’ve been seeing one of my favourite photographers taking a number of B&W images and so I decided to try it with this statue. They came out rather well I think. The shadows and highlights created by the use of B&W add to the image I think. This is the statue from another angle.

An inscription at the base of the statue reads:
“The garden of remembrance and the flying doctor base at Alice SpringsĀ were established in the centenary year 1936 by the women of South Australia as a tribute to the pioneer women of the state”
A few weeks ago we went into the city here in Adelaide and as usual I took my camera with me. I took a number of close up photos of the flowers in the garden beds around the Adelaide Oval. I thought some of them may look good if I changed the background to black and white and left the rose in colour.
Below is my first attempt at this. I used the GIMP on Ubuntu Linux and a Bamboo tablet from Wacom. I’d tried this technique using just a mouse and the results not as good as using a tablet. Using the tablet was also easier on my wrist.
Initially I tried the Foreground Select tool, but found the rose was too complex. Either that or I wasn’t using the tool correctly. In the end I followed this tutorial and I think the resulting image is interesting.
I took this photo in the park just outside the Adelaide Oval. It made me wonder, were they deeply in thought plotting how to get water out of the drinking fountain?
During a recent trip to the Adelaide Botanic Garden we stumbled across this statue entitled “The Amazon”.

The plaque on the plinth that the statue is on reads:
The Amazon by August K. E. Kiss (copy) presented by the citizens of Adelaide 1867
Which only leaves me with two thoughts really:
While wandering around the gardens near the Adelaide Oval I looked up and saw this truly massive lighting tower. I was struck by the bright, almost pristine, white of the tower against the bright blue of the sky.
