Do blogs have birthdays or anniversaries?

Birthday cakeIt is an interesting question, do you celebrate the “birth” of your blog or do you celebrate its anniversary? Either way today one year ago this blog came into existence. And what a year it has been.

My blog started as a place where I could write about my explorations with technology with the RUBRIC project. I wrote about all sorts of things including my programming activities and thoughts about institutional repositories. I’ve moved away from the Python programming language and now work the majority of the time with Perl.

During the year I moved to the University of Adelaide library where I’ve worked on a number of different projects. I’m not as focused as I was at RUBRIC on institutional repositories and my posts have reflected this change. I’ve become more interested in Library 2.0 and Web 2.0 and have categories for these types of posts.

I’ve started posting selective photos and talking about other topics as well. I’ve moved away from using Flickr, a prominent web 2.0 poster child, and instead put my photos up in galleries on a Picasa Web Album instead. Not for any real technological reason as such, just that I have now more of my life online with Google than anywhere else. I now have my email, some documents, images and my RSS feeds all in Google based services.

While I was at RUBRIC I was approached to contribute to the librariesinteract.info website and have worked with the other people there on various projects. It is a great experience working on a collaborative blog such as librariesinteract and I look forward to be able to do more with them.

Some parts of the year have been rather tough, like moving interstate for a change in career and starting studying again, but all in all it has been a really interesting year and I can’t help but wonder what the future will bring. I’m glad that you’re all here with me to see what happens.

    Happy blogiversary.

We have blogtwins. Mine is just five days away, since I started on bloglines (I know!!), then moved to blogger than my own site. Now I feel like I have to DO something. :)
