Jessamyn West in Adelaide

Yesterday I was fortunate to be able to attend a workshop by Jessamyn West. The workshop was presented by the ALIA SA group and supported by the State Library of South Australia.
The workshop went for two hours, and it was the shortest two hours of workshop I’ve attended in a while, time seemed to fly by. Jessamyn is a passionate and knowledgeable speaker who appeared to energise everyone in the room. The workshop gave me a lot to think about and when I sort some of it out I’ll post here again.
It was interesting to me that used HTML based slides, you can see her presentation as it linked to from this post on her blog. Our presentation was the second one, “Web 2.0, Library 2.0, Librarian 2.0 and why it’s no big deal, seriously“. I think I’ll have to investigate HTML slides for presentations I do here at University of Adelaide Library.
The main thing that stuck with me most from the presentation is the idea that the “Library 2.0″ way of thinking isn’t just about technology, it can be applied to many other facets of the way we interact with our patrons. This is something I’ve been thinking for a while and it was good have it re-enforced by someone who is clearly more into this stuff than I am. Some examples of this are outlined in her slide “What about the real world?“.
Another librarian who was at the workshop kayo, has also posted their thoughts about the workshop.
The image above of the L2 Transmogrifier is taken from one of Jessamyn’s slides. I love the word transmogrifier, I wonder if I’ll be able to use it in a conversation today?
